The idea for IWillCheckIn came from two very different situations with one common theme. The first was a friend who lives alone and was concerned what would happen if something happened to him. How would anyone know? The second was from a friend who was lamenting her mother wanting to stay in her own home after her husband passed away. The common theme was they both needed someone to Check In on them without interfering in their lives. The discussion that followed would focus on our core set of requirements for a system that would do just that.
First, it needs to be Flexible. We want to be able to create anything from a simple Check In to one that is far more complex. A simple Check In would be one where the system calls one person every morning at a certain time and then let's a second person know if they answered the phone ok. A complex Check In might be used by a professional caregiver or a senior center that wants to check in on 10 people 3 times a day and get a single report via email as to the status of all 10 people.
Second, it needs to be Versatile. We wanted the versatility to be able to contact someone by phone call, text message and/or email and to provide a way for them to respond in each case. We wanted a way to allow the users to set their own schedules so they could decide when and how it was best to contact someone and to follow up after that initial contact. And if the user chose to, we wanted them to be able to make multiple attempts to contact a person before they notified someone to follow up with that person.
Third, it needs to be Simple. Considering that with flexibility and versatility comes complexity, this was a challenge. So we decided to present the options in multiple ways. There is a "guided" method to create a Check In that will allow you to easily get up and running with your first Check In in a matter of minutes. And there are more complex advanced options that provide the flexibility and versatility to create a Check In to meet your needs, no matter how complex they are.
Fourth, it needs to be Affordable. To best do this we broke the pricing out to two separate sections. The first is your account where you pay an annual or monthly fee to maintain an account. The second is what we call "Comms" where 1 Comm is equal to 1 phone call or 1 text message or 1 email. Sort of like your cell phone bill. So you can tailor your account to your needs whether you have a single, once a day Check In or you are a family with multiple Check In needs or you are a professional or an organization with even more complex requirements.
And fifth, it needs to be Reliable. The system needs to be up and working when you need it. We use well known and reputable companies for all or our technologies. However, this is technology and there is always a very slight chance a message could be dropped or lost somewhere in the chain, including on the receiving device. For this reason, we will teach you how even in a time of system failure there is a way to set up a Check In String that can be monitored by you 100% of the time.
